Sprezzatura Publishing Ltd. has stressed the need for young people to participate in mandatory military service to foster patriotism and discipline, contributing to broader nation-building responsibilities.
The Managing Director of the company, Dr Abubakar Sani, made the call in Abuja, while announcing plans to unveil a new book titled “Serving the Nation: Exploring Mandatory Military Service for Nigerian Youths.”
Sani said the event slated for Friday in Abuja, would go beyond a routine book presentation, describing it as a platform for robust national discourse.
According to him, the presentation will ignite fresh conversations around patriotism, discipline and youth engagement in nation-building.
“This book does not impose a position on Nigerians, rather, it encourages critical thinking about patriotism, discipline, unity and the broader responsibilities of young people in nation-building.
“We want citizens to carefully reflect on the possible social, economic and political implications of such a policy,” he said.
Sani noted that Nigeria’s youthful population remained one of its greatest assets.
He stressed that discussions on compulsory military service must be inclusive, balanced and forward-looking.
According to him, a major highlight of the event will be a panel discussion featuring contributors and key stakeholders, aimed at generating practical recommendations on strengthening national service frameworks and youth participation.
Observers say the presentation is poised to spark meaningful conversations on citizenship, shared responsibility and innovative pathways to national cohesion, as debates around structured national service continue to gain traction.
