Traditional institutions, key to peacebuilding – IPCR

Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR)

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has described the traditional institutions as key in promoting peacebuilding in every society.

The Director-General of the institute, Bakut Bakut, made this known when a traditional ruler, the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Yunusa visited the institution in Abuja on Thursday.

Bakut said that the institute was fully aware of the efforts of the traditional rulers in complementing the IPCR peacebuilding strategies in the FCT.

“I believe that traditional rulers are very important in peacebuilding process for the development of this country.

“We must work together to ensure that peace is sustained in FCT in particular and the country in general,’’ Bakut said.

He remarked that the institute had created peacebuilding office in Gwagwalada and that it is also planning to create more to register its presence in all area councils of the FCT.

Earlier, the Ona Abaji said that his visit to the institute was to register his support for IPCR in promoting peace in the country.

In another development, Bakut had earlier received the President of UFUK Dialogue Foundation, Mr Ahmet Omeroglu and reiterated his commitment to sustain a good relationship with IPCR.

The director-general said the foundation, one of the resilient partners, had been working with the institute in promoting peace through dialogue.

“We have been working together with UFUK Dialogue Foundation, especially in the area of love and tolerance conference among other peacebuilding activities,’’ he said.

In his remarked, Omeroglu said that UFUK was working to promote global peace and contribute to peaceful coexistence among adherents of various culture, faith, tribes and race in the world.

He said that the mandate of UFUK was to promote dialogue, mutual coexistence and establish a common platform for the exchange information and opinion.
