Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, has ordered for strict enforcement of the restriction on movement of persons at entry points into the state to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Bagudu gave the directives on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi, while receiving preventive materials for the prevention of Coronavirus, jointly produced by the seven tertiary institutions in the state.
He expressed confidence on the ability of the Nigeria’s tertiary institutions of education to conduct research that would be of immense benefit for the needs of the country.
The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Sulaiman Argungu, tasked the Task Force Committee on COVID-19 to distribute the materials for use by the people.
“The preventive materials should be distributed to the mosques, churches, markets, hospitals and motor parks for use by the people to wash and sanitise their hands,” he said.
Also speaking, Prof. Mukhtari Bunza, the Commissioner for Higher Education, noted that the local production of the items represented a milestone in the efforts of state owned tertiary institutions to look inwards.
“Local production of the items is in consonance with the advice by Gov. Bagudu, to institutions of higher learning to be innovative and inventive,” Bunza said.
On his part, Ja’afaru Muhammad, the Chairman of the committee, thanked the donors for the gesture.
Muhammad, who was also the Commissioner for Health, reiterated commitment to ensure effective utilsation of the items.
The state owned tertiary institutions of learning include: Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero; Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari; College of Health Technology, Jega; and Kebbi State College of Nursing Science, Birnin Kebbi.
Others are College of Preliminaries Studies, Yauri; College of Agriculture, Zuru and Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu.
The materials include face masks, hand sanitisers, liquid soap, pamphlets, hand bills and posters for sensitization against spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
