Sokoto State House of Assembly has adopted a motion, seeking the Federal and State Governments to beef up Security in some villages of Illela Local Government Area of the state.
This it said would help to checkmate the activities of bandits and cattle rustlers in the area.
This development followed a motion moved by Alh. Bello Ambarura (APC-Illela) seconded by Alh. Mahmud Abdullahi (PDP- Kware) at the Wednesday’s plenary of the assembly in Sokoto.
Ambarura said the motion became necessary, following incessant attacks of armed bandits and kidnapping in neighboring villages and Illela town in the local government.
“The recent happening of activities of these dreadful elements are very worrisome, as they attacked, kidnapped and collected ransom from the communities in Illela LGA.
“Sometimes they kill innocent citizens during their operations and cart away with their property,” he said.
The lawmaker listed the effected villages to include; Amarawa town, Tudun Gudale, Damba, Kalmalo, Araba, Gidan Katta and Tozai village areas respectively.
“These villages are now living in fear as any moment, they may become victims of armed bandits and cattle rustlers.
“As such I wish to appeal to the federal and state governments to do more in their efforts in tackling the menace,” he added.
The Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji, who presided over the assembly sitting, put the motion to a voice vote and it was unanimously accepted by the members.
