Gov. Godwin Obaseki, Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo Sept. 19 governorship election, says over-arching objectives of his administration is to lay a clear vision for the state.
Obaseki said this on Wednesday, when he took his wards’ campaign to Agenebode, Etsakor East Local Government Area of the state.
He also said that restoring accountability through effective governance processes, ensuring fiscal responsibility and judicious use of public resources were also part of the objectives.
Other objective he said, were prioritising the provision of public services while creating a very competitive environment for private investments, both local and foreign to thrive.
He noted that executing competently, his administration made the business of government more predictable and less prone to haphazard or disjointed measures.
The governor also said that given the critical nature of infrastructure in accelerating the pace of development, the state policies in infrastructure were aimed at improving the network of urban and rural roads and transportation, access to electricity and water supply, efficiency in the use of land as well access to affordable housing.
“We have built over 150 roads covering over 200 kilometres in urban and rural communities to facilitate easy movement of goods and people which have opened up these communities for business to thrive.
“We have passed new laws to regulate water transactions and among many projects, we are completing the Reticulation of the Uromi Water project which is an example of how to utilise PPP to improve access to safe water in the LGA.
“We are collaborating with a private investor under the eligible customer policy of NERC to build the 55Mw Ossiomo power project which will guaranty constant electricity supply to government offices and power over 100 kilometre of street lights in the state capital.
The governor also said that the EDO Ground Information System (GIS) have increased the efficiency in land administration & improved public investors confidence through digitisation of land administration.
He added that with this, “We can issue C of Os within 90 days at minimum cost of N50,000,”
The PDP candidate further said that though Edo had the least number of out of school children in Nigeria, his administration was committed to improving the quality of education for the Children in state.
“Hence our efforts in Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation, which has seen us train over 10,500 teachers in the most modern teaching techniques such that over 269,000 school children are now receiving a much better quality of education than their peers in private schools.
“We have restored confidence in our public school as we have moved our educational system in Edo from mere schooling to learning.
“We are also emphasising technical and vocational education. “Government Science and Technical College Benin (GSTC) has been rehabilitated and is projected to train 5,000 students.
“20 more technical colleges will be built around the state,” he said.
