The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, on Saturday announced the death of another COVID-19 patient, making it the fourth COVID-19 related deaths recorded in the state.

Abayomi, through his verified Twitter account, said that the patient died of COVID-19 related complications in a private hospital in Lagos.

He, however, did not disclose further information about the patient’s sex, age or nationality.

Giving an update of cases in the state, Abayomi said that there were 166 confirmed cases, 111 of the cases were active, 46 had been discharged, two evacuated, while four had died.

Abayomi disclosed further that three of the confirmed cases had been transferred to Ogun, being their state of residence.

The commissioner advised residents to continue to obey the social distancing rules toward ensuring a disease-free society as Lagos remains the epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Earlier, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said that Nigeria currently has 305 confirmed cases, with 58 of the cases discharged, while seven deaths were recorded.

Data from the World Health Organisation (WHO), Africa region, shows that there were 12,700 confirmed cases, with 2,050 recovered, while 666 associated deaths reported in Africa.
