An opposition political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the National Assembly to constitute a joint ad-hoc committee on allegations raised by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami.
The PDP said the ad-hoc committee should commence an independent investigation into the allegation against the acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.
The party made the call in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, on Friday in Abuja, in a reaction to a memo by the Attorney General of the Federation on Magu.
Ologbondiyan also called on Magu to immediately step aside and submit himself for an independent investigation in order to clear his name.
He said it was a national embarrassment that the head of the anti-corruption agency was being dragged on allegation of diversion of recovered funds and fraudulent sale of assets seized by the agency.
Ologbondiyan said: “The report by Malami, the EFCC’s supervising minister, who believably has unhindered access to facts and documents related to the anti-graft issues, must be received by President Muhammadu Buhari to clean up the system.
“Moreover, following the allegation of diversion of recovered funds coming from Malami, the EFCC Chairman has lost all moral rectitude to preside over the nation’s anti-corruption agency to investigate and prosecute others, until he comes clean.”
