Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Friday said that the state carried out 3,065 coronavirus tests in eight days.

Makinde disclosed this via his official Twitter account: @seyiamakinde.

The governor said that the exponential increase in the daily number of confirmed coronavirus cases recorded in the state led to the activation of 10 community-based testing centres across the state.

According to him, the state has conducted 7,051 coronavirus tests since the outbreak of the pandemic in the state.

“You may have noticed the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in Oyo State in the past few days.
“Between June 10 and June 18, 2020, we tested 3,065 more samples due to the activation of 10 community-based testing centres.

“The total number of samples tested currently stands at 7,051,” he tweeted.

Makinde said that the more the state tests people for coronavirus, the more likely it is to record more positive cases of the dreaded disease.

“The more samples we test, the more positive cases we are likely to get.

“This means that COVID-19 is still very much in our midst and we need to take responsibility and follow the guidelines provided by the COVID-19 Task Force.

“We urge those with any strange fever, sudden loss of taste/smell or other known COVID-19 symptoms to please visit the nearest community-based testing centre to get tested,” he said.

The state on Thursday recorded its highest single-day coronavirus cases with 103 new cases.

The state has confirmed 764 coronavirus cases with nine deaths as ss the time of filling this report.
