The presiding pastor of the Peculiar Generation Assembly Church, Lagos, Chris McDouglas Omosokpea, has been invited by the operatives of the Nigeria Police, over alleged rape of a teenage church member (name withheld) for four years.
The 57-year-old Omosokpea’s church which is located at 17/19 Mutiatu Kayode Street, off Ayodele Street, Mafoluku area of Oshodi, was where the victim and her family have worshiped for about 12 years now.
Gfhnews.com learnt that the Edo State-born pastor and father of four, started abusing the victim sexually when she was 14 years old and this continued until this year when she turned 18 years.
The Pastor was doing this through fake prophecies but the alleged heinous act came to light when the victim could bear it no longer.
Our reporter gathered that about four months ago, the victim started withdrawing from church activities, refused participating in choir practices or meetings.
She had hitherto led these activities as one of the best choir girls in the church.
It was discovered that whenever she did not attend the choir practice, the pastor, whom the victim’s family took as a father and real Man of God, would go to their house, pretending to be preaching to her.
Most times, the victim’s mother would call the pastor to inform him that she did not know why her daughter was refusing to go the church.
It was further learnt that when the victim suddenly began to act strangely in the house and isolate herself from her sibling, her mother would invite the pastor because of his closeness to the family.
They also regarded the pastor as one of them and appreciated his intervention due to the absence of their biological father who lives abroad.
It was also learnt that sometime in April when the victim visited her mother’s sister-in-law’s office she started behaving strangely.
The woman was said to have tried to find out what was happening to her but she refused to speak up.
The woman had to call the mother of the victim to know what was wrong with her daughter but she had said she also was worried about the situation.
It was revealed that the victim woke her mother up around 3.00am threatening to commit suicide over the trauma she was passing through that she could no longer bear.
The situation made her mother to apply pressure and she finally opened up on the heart-rending ordeal she had been going through for four years.
And this at the hands of the pastor they had all taken as ‘Daddy’ over the years, but who had been abusing her sexually through fake prophecies.
The victim’s shocked and traumatized mother promptly reported the matter to the Human Rights Section of Makinde Police Station, Oshodi.
The Pastor was invited but he refused to honour the invitation with different and flimsy excuses, among them, that he was at the mountain for special prayers.
When our correspondent contacted the victim’s mother on phone, she said that her family had been members of the Church for about 12 years.
“We so much trusted Pastor Douglas believing he was a true man God, but unknown to my family and I, he had ruined us.
“My daughter is one the best choir girls in the church and any time she led, choir members would fall into a special kind of anointing.
“I did not know that Douglas had been secretly abusing her sexually by pretending to mentor her for a good 4 years’’.
According to her, `suddenly my daughter changed, withdrew herself and became very aggressive at all times’.
“I do not know where my family have wronged Pastor Douglas, everything my husband sends to us, his own is number one, my husband trusted him that much.
“Makinde Police Station has given us Police medical paper and we have gone to Mirabel Centre at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja (LASUTH), where she was attended to and counseled”.
The coordinator, Advocates for Children and Vulnerable People Network (ACVPN), Mr Ebenezer Omejalile, has advised parents to always listen to their wards and monitor any sudden change in them.
