A group, the Concerned Citizens of the North East has called for proper investigation into the alleged N13 billion fraud in the North East Development Commission( NEDC).

The group, in a petition to the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Olukayode Egbetokun on Thursday in Abuja,  said that the  allegation was weighty nd should   not be ignored.

The petition, submitted at the I-G’s office on June 4, was signed by Mr Peter Aki and representatives of the states making up the region.

The signatories to the petition were Mr Atiku Isma’ila, Gombe, Alhaji Lawan Abdullahi, Bauchi, Mallam Murtala Danejo, Taraba, Aliyu Mohammed, Yobe, Mr Awwal Wakili, Adamawa and Abubakar Hussaini, Borno.

The petitioners called on those behind the allegation to come up with proves and evidence to substantiate their claims.

They said the allegation against Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Managing Director of the North East Development Commission, Mr Goni Alkali was an attempt to ignite political instability in the region.

The group said those behind the allegation had in June briefed the media in Abuja, alleging a N13 billion contract scandal involving the managing director of the commission and the vice president.

They described the allegation and media publications as malicious, libel and criminal defamation against the two public officers.
