Three-time Olympian and Technical Director of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation Chika Chukwumerije has advised tarkwondo practitioners in Nigeria that there are a lot of great, progressive ideas that they can bring to fruition in this period of lockdown in the land.
In a release he made available Monday, the ex-Olympian said that the first step would be to be positive about the current situation.
He said that the right attitude is neccessary in order to come out at the other end of the tunnel, able to count the positives from this experience.
He then went on to list the things that can be done even during this forced isolation, things he said would improve their skills and professionalism and stand Nigeria taekwondo in good stead, after these trying times.
“You can affiliate your club to the NTF and send past videos, pictures and stories; apply for your kukkiwon Black Belt Certificate; learn one of the new Poomsaes, and
practise your 540 degrees kick”.
Chukwumerije also named his other recommendations to include – practising the Referee Hand Signals for Kyeorugi and Poomsae,
randomly checking up on other members of the TKD family through calls, texts, whatsapp, etc
and thinking and planing out a business proposal for a Taekwondo school in one’s area.
Other suggestions he proferred include thinking and planning out a fitness and martial arts regime for potential clients in your area;
watch training videos and update your training program; firm up your biceps/ triceps with daily 100 push-ups and start building your 6-pack with daily 100 sit-ups.
The NTF Technical boss also advanced some further far-reaching recommendations;
start and finish reading lots and lots of books; ‘learn to use a new software e.g. CorelDraw, Microsoft Office Suite, Video Editing etc’.
He then rounded off with a few interesting suggestions as well.
“Learn to cook a new dish; meditate, pray and do a lot of self-reflection; and then take in plenty of rest”.
He advised all taekwondo athletes, and indeed all athletes, to remember to Stay Home and Stay Safe
He reassured all taekwondoists that the NTF was planning for their progress, even now.
“Don’t worry, we are using this period to develop so many exciting plans for you once this whole pandemic has gone away”.
