The Super Eagles of Nigeria need to avoid defeat against Guinea-Bissau to guarantee their place in the knockout stage of the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF AFCON 2023 in Côte D’Ivoire. The third round of matches are broadcasting live on GOtv and the GOtv Stream app.
Following a hard fought victory over host Cote D’Ivoire in the previous match, the Super Eagles are keen to climb to the top of the group with another victory against Guinea-Bissau. Tune in GO Football (ch 61) at 6pm on Monday to catch all the action.
Jose Peseiro is wary of the threat posed by Guinea-Bissau who recently defeated the Super Eagles 1-0 in Abuja for the qualifiers. “What matters is the present. We focus on the present and the future. We have confidence in ourselves. We are aiming for first place which is also occupied by Equatorial Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire, it is up to us to remain vigilant,” José Peseiro told CAF in a press briefing.
On the other hand, Guinea-Bissau are out to cause an upset having lost their opening game 2–0 against Cote D’Ivoire and their second game 4-2 against Equatorial Guinea. Speaking ahead of the game, coach Baciro Condé disclosed that his team will take inspiration from their last victory against the Super Eagles.
“Indeed we are going to base ourselves on this match. We have analysed the game of the Super Eagles well, we hope to make a success of our exit in the absence of having had a good tournament,” Baciro Condé told CAF in a press briefing.
While the Super Eagles will be in action, the host Côte D’Ivoire and group leader, Equatorial Guinea will challenge each other. After failing to break down Nigeria’s sturdy defence, the Elephant’s face a tough test to reclaim their honour against a spirited opponent buoyed by their 1-1 draw with Nigeria and 4-2 victory against Guinea-Bissau. Their match will be live on SuperSelect 2 (ch 2) at 6pm.
In Group B, while Cape Verde has advanced to the knockout stage, the fates of Ghana, Mozambique and Egypt hang in the balance. Ghana and Mozambique have all to play for tonight at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
Having lost their opening game 2-1 against Cape Verde and held to a 2-2 draw with Egypt, the Black Stars are desperate for victory as they want to avoid another embarrassing group stage defeat. The match will air on GO Football (ch 61) at 9pm. Also, Egypt have all to play for against Cape Verde if they hope to advance to Round of 16. The match will air on SuperSelect 2 (ch 64) at 9pm
