The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed Gov. Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of the Zanfara 2023 governorship poll.
Justice Emmanuel Agim who delivered the judgment also sets aside the judgment of the Court of appeal that declared the election inconclusive
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had declared the governorship election conducted in the state on May 29 inconclusive.
In a unanimous decision, the three-member panel led by Justice Oyebisi Folayemi, on Thursday nullified the return of Governor Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of the governorship poll.
Justice Sybil Nwaka, who read the lead judgment, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a fresh election in three local government areas of the state where elections had not been held previously or where results from various polling units were not counted.
The affected local governments are Maradun, Birnin-Magaji and Bukkuyum.
