Sen. Abdulaziz Yari (APC-Zamfara) has called for continuation of the current economic transition for the overall development of the country.
Yari made the call on Thursday while briefing Journalists after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to him, economic reforms of the Tinubu-led administration will usher in an era of unprecedented prosperity and Nigerians should be more patient.
“The first step of subsidy removal on the first day in office was a decision waiting to happen for the prosperity of the country.
“Several administrations have been toying with the idea.
“The President took the bull by the horn and went ahead to implement it.
“That was a foreshadow of the kind of leadership Nigerians will continue to see and it surely will be for the better.
“I am in the villa to congratulate the President after the election and to advise on the need to keep with the party’s (APC) campaign promises.
“He is aware of this and said he will keep the people in mind in all he does.”
On the security situation in Zamfara, Yari said necessary measures were being taken by the Federal Government to tackle the deplorable situation in the State.
“Providing security is the prime responsibility of every government.
“The President is working with all Security Chiefs to ensure Nigerians are adequately assured of safety of their lives and property.
“In Zamfara, definitely, there is a link between mining activities and insecurity.
“We didn’t have some information during our tenure which we have now about the linkage; but this is a security issue that I will not discuss in the open.
“For now, I am aware of some decisions that were taken that have brought the situation under control in three or four Area Councils of the State.”
Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, is currently in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly and was a front runner among the contestants for the seat of Senate President. (NAN)
