The Lagos State Government of Babajide Sanwo-Olu which had initially denied any killing during the EndSARS protest, just to later say on CNN that only two people were killed has finally owned up to the fact that soldiers he had deployed to the scene killed 103 youths who were protesting with Nigerian flags at the Lekki toll gate.
The unarmed youths were protesting police brutality and at the same time agitating for a better welfare condition for the Nigeria police force when the governor ordered soldiers to the tollgate.
The soldiers then turned their blazing guns on the hapless unarmed youths, mowing down dozens of them.
The soldiers killed them and then delivered their bodies to Sanwo-Olu, who has kept the bodies from public glare for one year and eight months.
This revelation came up through a leaked letter from the state Government addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, and signed by the Director General in the ministry, Mr. Onafowote Fatai Idowu.
The letter has the subject: ”No objection to mass burial of 103 victims of the year 2020 EndSars
The letter alluded to another letter penned by the Perm Sec dated July 13, 2023 with reference no. LSMH/G/NS/013-1/23 in respect of the above subject matter.
An excerpt from the letter reads: “Following our review of your letter and the document attached, we note the following:
Mr. Governor’s approval;
Minutes of ministerial board tender, board meeting, and procurement planning committee meeting.
“The review of your request, and based on the information provided there in, the agency has no objection to the award of the contract to Messrs TOS Funerals Ltd at a total cost of N61, 285, 000 only for the mass burial of 103, the year 2020 EndSars victims.”
The letter directed the Perm Sec to make necessary deductions of taxes.
Apparently there were 103 dead bodies from the #ENDSARS protest saga just approved by LASG to be given a mass burial.
One can only wonder what the state of mind of the families of the victims would be at this time.
This obvious genocide did not however feature in the report of the so-called panel of inquiry.
At the scene of the genocide at Lekki tollgate some bodies were carted away in military trucks that night, from the video clip that went viral which the some government apologists did not believe.
Also, the Panel of enquiry was denied access to the military mortuary when they visited during the panel’s investigations.
Now, the argument of “nobody died” can no longer hold up.
