Mr Dumebi Kachikwu, Presidential Candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), says he will create a country that works for everyone, if he is elected president on Feb. 25.
According to him, colonial matters handed down a country segregated by tribe and religion, and these are the factors that Nigeria has been dealing with since independence.
He said his first major challenge would be to redefine the country and create a nation where everyone would have a stake.
“So the first thing I will do as president is to create a nation called Nigeria and define a charter for Nigerian people.
“What we subscribe to, what is the Nigerian dream and under the green and white of our flag we subscribe to that and then create a working constitution that every Nigerian subscribes to.
“This is so that we then know that we are one people, irrespective of who leads us at that point, we know that we are one.
“That is the first thing I will do as president of Nigeria.
“Moving from creating a nation that works for everyone, we need to come up with a vision for the new Nigeria.
“This includes a vision for education and the kind of infrastructure we want to have in Nigeria.
“A vision for what we say, what we expect, a vision for women, for our youths, what do we expect from people.
“You know, in America they speak of the American Dream, where anyone who’s willing to work hard will be able to have a home, good health care and good education.
“So we need to have this Nigerian Dream where we are saying that we deserve good roads, world-class infrastructure, where we know that our borders are secure and our highways are free from bandits and kidnappers.”
Kachikwu said that he would create an educational system devoid of strikes and where children would be built to compete with children in other climes and where youths would emerge and get jobs or create businesses.
“Our middle class will no longer leave Nigeria for better climes because Nigeria is not working for them; we must build a Nigeria that works for every Nigerian irrespective of tribe, tongue or religion.
“That is my vision. That is what I will do as president of Nigeria,” he said.
