By Dr Chinedu Jideofo-Ogbuagu,
We have called for impeachment of Governor Willie Obiano because of his irresponsible absenteeism at meetings of fellow governors of the South and South-East, where issues of mutual interest – including security of his state – would be discussed and decisions taken.
If Governor Obiano is impeached by democratic process involving Anambra indigenes in the Anambra judiciary and legislature, Governor Obiano’s Deputy would serve out the remaining part of their second term.
If the Federal Government (FG) is truly as concerned as we are about sudden and inexplicable deterioration of insecurity in Anambra, it should support our “motion” for immediate impeachment of Governor Obiano, not to threaten to declare state of emergency in the state or any other state of the South-East.
Let no one deceive the FG that state of emergency in Anambra would be acceptable or popular. It would not.
If anything, it would be considered proof of FG’s complicity – directly or indirectly – in the new wave “gunmen” killings and destructions in Anambra of the past few days.
FG’s detractors in the South-East would say that the FG or its agents killed people (including Dr Chike Akunyili) just to provide itself a justification or alibi for state of emergency in Anambra.
And even supporters of the FG would agree with its detractors on this.
They would say that the FG would have imposed state of emergency in many Northern states since 2015 if the Buhari administration truly felt that state of emergency was desirable to stop killings by terrorists.
If the FG didn’t impose state of emergency in Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, FCT Abuja, Nasarawa, Niger, Kaduna, Plateau, Bauchi, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto and Gombe, where terrorism and killings have been daily occurrences for years, why contemplate such for Anambra where suspected imported terrorism and killings have occurred since last week and not as intensely as we have seen and are seeing on daily basis in most of the Northern states since 2015?
If the APC – our party – want to win Anambra, it must not be by any crooked way.
We must strategize and campaign vigorously to convince Anambra people that APC would perform better than APGA or any of the other parties we are up against in the November 6th, 2021 governorship election.
We will not accept electoral victory by force and bloodletting under any circumstance.
Do not declare state of emergency in Anambra; rather, provide security that is lacking in Anambra under Governor Obiano or support impeachment of the Governor for his sober Deputy to be chief security officer of the State during the election.
And let greater (not less) numbers of Anambra voters decide in the democratic search for the next and better governor of Anambra State.
