The Police Command in Ekiti State, on Tuesday said it arrested one Moyinoluwa Victor, (a.k.a Gigabyte) for allegedly spreading fake news against the Police Rapid Response Squad(RRS) in the state on the social media.
The Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), ASP Sunday Abutu made this known in a statement in Ado Ekiti.
He said the suspect, in his alleged “mischievous” intent, recently conspired with one Oluwatosin, a female and made a fake video recording, alleging the RRS of assaulting and inflicting injuries on her face and also collected N50,000 from her as bail money. ”
During investigation, Moyinoluwa confessed to the commission of the crime but said it was the female accomplice who lied and misled him. ”
When Moyinoluwa was asked to produce the lady, he claimed he did not know her identity but only met her on a street in Ado-Ekiti. ”
However, further investigation revealed that Moyinoluwa intended, as usual, to tarnish the image of the RRS and the Nigeria Police and so, hired the lady, coached her and persuaded her to make false allegation against the Rapid Response Squad of the Nigeria Police, Ekiti State Command,” the PPRO said.
Abutu alleged that Moyinoluwa was also arrested in 2019 by the disbanded SARS in Ekiti Command for an offence of robbery and charged to court for prosecution. ”
He also led miscreants to attack innocent citizens in Ekiti State during the ENDSARS Protest in October, 2020,” he said.
According to him, the suspect will be arraigned as soon as the courts are back to duties.
