Malam Saliu Mustapha, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on wealthy Muslims to alleviate the sufferings of the people as the Ramadan fast commences.
Mustapha, in a statement issued on Friday in Ilorin on behalf of his foundation, Saliu Mustapha Foundation, admonished Muslims to use the sacred month to seek Allah’s forgiveness for their sins.
According to him, the deployment of such wealth on the divine path was necessary in view of the hardship many citizens, especially Muslims, are grappling with amid the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.
The APC stalwart particularly urged Muslims around the world to leverage on the bounty available in the month of Ramadan to pray to Allah for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The former governorship aspirant in Kwara noted that the pandemic had humbled the rich and the poor around the world.
This, he said, was a strong indication that wealth, quest for luxuries and power were meaningless.
He also stressed the need for Muslims, especially those in power, to repent from their sins and other wrongdoings.
Mustapha urged Muslims to use the holiest month to draw closer to Allah and allow the teachings and lessons of the Glorious Qur’an and sayings of the Hadith to reflect in their dealings.
“The sacred month of Ramadan is here again. We thank Allah for sparing our lives, especially Muslims to be counted among the living souls in spite of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.
“To say it is a challenging time for all of us, particularly Muslim faithful, is the least. The coronavirus pandemic has also increased the spate of hardship among our people.
”We, therefore, use this medium to appeal to rich Muslims to deploy their wealth in alleviating the suffering of the people,” the APC chieftain said.
