The Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed a vote of no confidence on the National Security Adviser (NSA), Ali Manguno, over his declaration of Zamfara as a No-fly zone.
The Speaker of the house, Alhaji Nasiru Magarya, announced this at the assembly’s plenary in Gusau on Wednesday after various deliberations by the lawmakers on security issues of the state.
Magarya said the house unanimously resolved to pass a vote of no confidence on the NSA for his incompetence in addressing the security situation in the country and for banning mining activities in the state.
“We also resolved to call on the federal government to set up a special committee to investigate the real security situation in the state.
“We also called on the state government to set up a committee to investigate those sobataging the efforts of the state government in tackling insecurity in the state, especially the ongoing peace dialogue process,” the speaker said.
Magarya described the kidnapping of 279 students of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) in Jangebe by unknown gunmen as unfortunate and condemnable.
Earlier, while moving the motion under matters of urgent public importance, the Majority Leader, Alhaji Faruku Dosara, called on the assembly to do more to ensure effective security provision to residents of the state.
Dosara described the kidnapping of the students as a big threat to future education of the state, especially the girl-child education.
“We cannot continue to allow such incident to continue to happen; we have to investigate the real cause of the ugly act.
“As representatives of the citizens, we have to ensure effective security of our people.
“Those behind the recent ugly incident must be investigated.
“I am, therefore, calling on our members to support this motion, considering its importance in the protection of lives and property of the citizens of the state,” Dosara explained.
