Edo 2020 Guber fallout: Osagie Ize-Iyamu drags journalist to court, demands N500 Million

Edo governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has dragged the former state financial Secretary of the state Nigeria Union of Journalists, before a Benin High Court, demanding the sum of N 500 Million over alleged libel.

Ize-Iyamu in a writ of summons with the suit numbers B/488/2020, filed by Mr Emmanuel Usoh on Wednesday in Benin, demanded the sum of N500 Million as aggravated damaged for libelous publication published on July 19, 2020.

He said the publication was circulated on Facebook, WhatsApp groups , Twitter and Instagram against the Claimant by the defendant

Ize-Iyamu also demanded for an approval of the court, directing the defendant to publish formal letter of apology and a retraction of libelous publication earlier published within seven days of the Judgment of the court in these proceedings.

Ize-Iyamu further demanded for a formal letter of apology and retraction of the libelous publication in seven newspapers circulating in Nigeria.

The newspapers include, Vanguard, Punch, Tribune, Thisday, Daily Times, Leadership, Guardian and three Online platforms as well as on Facebook and WhatsApp applications within 14 days of the Judgement of the court in these proceedings.

He also demanded for injunction restraining the defendant whether by herself, agents, privies cronies, staff or however described from further publishing issues relating to the content of the libelous publication published on July 19, 2020.
