The Police Command in Ekiti, says it has arrested one Yakubu Aliu, over alleged kidnap of Mr Folorunsho Olabode, a former Commissioner for Agriculture in Ekiti.
Aliu was one of the suspects paraded by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ekiti, Mr Sunday Abutu in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, over their alleged involvement in nefarious activities.
Abutu said Aliu was arrested in a forest at Ilemesho-Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of the state.
“During interrogation, Aliyu confessed to being a member of a kidnap syndicate that kidnapped Olabode.
“Other gang members mentioned include: Dani, Gide, Danja, Bello, Sidi, Babi, Ali and Wada.
“Both Wada and Bello Mohammed had earlier been arrested, prosecuted and now imprisoned at the Ekiti correctional centre”.
“We have invited the former Commissioner for Agriculture to come and identify them,” he said.
The police spokesperson, said a murder suspect, Ayo Lawal, who allegedly killed a motorcyclist in Ekiti was also arrested. .
“The offence was committed at Odo Oro, Ikole local government area of the state, when Lawal in company of one Jimoh Ojo, Sule Abduallahi and one person named Wonder, allegedly killed the motorcyclist identified as Isaac in a farm.
“Isaac had conveyed the suspects from Ikole to a farmstead at Odo Oro Ekiti , where he was allegedly murdered and the body interred in a shallow grave in a farm belonging to Ayo Lawal.
Lawal, when paraded, confessed to the crime, saying he committed the nefarious crime to raise money to purchase yam tubers for the 2020/2021 planting season.
He said he was prodded by Abdullahi, who is now at large to commit the heinous crime .
“It was Abdullahi that said we should kill the deceased, so that he can go to Okenne, Kogi to sell the motorbike. My intention was to use my own share to buy yam tubers for 2021 planting season,” Lawal said.
Abutu said two of the suspects had been arrested and had confessed to the crime.
He said the police were on the trail of Abdullahi and Wonder, who had allegedly bolted with the motorbike to Kogi.
“Following a tip off, the command’s operatives on Nov. 24, 2020, arrested Ayo Lawal and Jimoh Ojo and they had made confessional statements.
“We are assuring you that those at large will be arrested soon,” he said.
