The officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Mr Abdon Gin, former Head of Service (HoS) of Bauchi state for alleged vote buying in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi state.
The former HoS is also the Special Adviser on Civil Service and Labour Matters to Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state.
He was arrested on Saturday shortly after he had cast his vote in the ongoing Dass state constituency by-election in Kanwara/Mbak government Social Welfare polling unit.
After addressing newsmen and was about to leave for his residence, the ex Head of Service was in his car when he was approached by the officials of EFCC who searched but found nothing on him.
He was later asked to open his booth where they found a total of N1.5m naira and was arrested and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Dass Divisional Headquarters.
Reacting to the arrest, Alh. Sulaiman Mohammed, Dass Local Government Chairman, said that the money found in his booth was meant for the agents, presiding officers and returning officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bundot ward of Dass LGA.
“I was told that one of our stakeholders was arrested and that’s why I’m here to sympathise with him.
“They came and arrested him and the money found with him was not his own.
“The money belongs to the agents, the presiding officers and the returning officers.
“I think his position as a stakeholder, he is entitled to hold this money,” he said.
