The Osun government says it has mounted barricades in all its borders to ensure compliance with lockdown directives as announced by Gov. Gboyega Oyetola, to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Mrs Funke Egbemode, the State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, disclosed this on Tuesday in Osogbo while speaking with newsmen.
Egbemode, who noted that the barricades were erected to throttle back unauthorised movements across the state, said government was intensifying efforts to flatten the COVID-19 curve and to avoid its resurgence in the state.
“Government is determined to protect Osun and its citizens.
“Hence, this move by the government is to keep defiant people from hurting themselves and endangering others.
“The barricades will only be opened to essential duty vehicles, conveying materials needed for the fight against COVID-19.
“Non-essential travels and movements remain banned in the State of Osun till further notice,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mr Adeleke Adebayo, a member of State COVID-19 Task force, said the barricades were installed to prevent human and vehicular movements from neighbouring states with increasing number of COVID-19 cases.
Adebayo, who is also the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, said the laws guiding the operations of the total lockdown and the general security of the people remained in force.
He added that relevant security agencies had been put on alert to ensure total compliance with the regulations and guidelines.
The state governor had on April 14 in a broadcast, announced a 14-day lockdown extension to combat the spread of the virus.
The state, as announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has so far recorded 20 confirmed cases with 18 patients discharged.
