The family of late Mark Bright, a 31 years old man from Abia State, who was shoot by a police officer at Rumuokoro in Feb.18, 2018 on Monday sought for justice from the police.
Mark Godswill, a brother to the deceased Mark Bright demanded for the prosecution of the police officer, who killed his brother.
Godswill, who appeared before the State Commission of Inquiry to End SARS/Police Brutality in Port Harcourt, also asked the police to pay a compensation of N100 million to the family.
“My brother was sitting in his car when the police officer shoot him claiming that he was causing traffic at the Rumuokoro area.
“Few days after his death, Police Commissioner, Rivers Command, Zark Amehed visited my family and also promised that the police will investigate the matter and bring the perpetrator to book.
“The police started the investigation which led to conduction of test and autopsy at University Teaching Hospital Port Harcourt which we have not known or seen the results till date.
“The police only released my late brother’s taxi without battery and that was the only thing the police did about my late brother’s death till date,” Godswill said.
The Legal representative for the police, asked that the panel to give the police till Wednesday to go through the case file at Rumuokoro to enable them get the officer present during the said incident.
In his speech, Justice Chukwunenye Uriri, (Rtd), The Chairman of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry adjourned the matter to Dec.2 for cross-examination of the witness and continuation of hearing.
Uriri also advised Mr Okechukwu Anams, one of the complainant to appear in the next sitting with his lawyer, adjourned his case till Dec. 3.
He also dismissed the petition of Mr ThankGod Nwabeke, saying that the matter was already in court.
