The Police authority in Ekiti says it has arrested a police orderly who allegedly shot two unarmed men at an unnamed popular hotel in Ado-Ekiti.
The Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) of the command, ASP Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday, said the incident happened on Saturday night at Queens Court Hotel, Ado Ekiti.
Abutu said while one of the victims was dead, and his remains deposited at a private mortuary, the other man with bullet wound was receiving treatment at the Afe Babalola University Multi System Hospital.
He however, disclosed the Commissioner of police had ordered for the disarm and arrest of the policeman allegedly involved in the shooting, ahead of full scale investigation into the incident. ”
The policeman who was involved in the fatal shooting at Queens Court Hotel for the reason which is still under investigation has been arrested by Ekiti State police command, disarmed and detained for investigation and disciplinary action.
Ekiti State Police Commissioner implores all the good people of Ekiti State to be calm as he assured them that justice will prevail”, he said.
Eyewitnesses said the the detained policeman and his colleague fled and abandoned their official Hilux van at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, (EKSUTH) where they had rushed the two victims for medical attention.
They said the policeman and his colleague were in the company of their superior officer, an AIG, who had gone to see his friend, the owner of the hotel.
They added that out of excitement, the detained policeman, who wanted to give compliment to their boss, accidentally fired his gun which hit the two men.
