
The Benue State Government on Wednesday explained how CACOVID-19 palliatives meant for the state were found in Kano State.
The State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism Mrs. Ngunan Addingi made the disclosure while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council Meeting in Makurdi.
Addingi said that the State Government was not involved in the alleged diversion of CACOVID palliatives earlier discovered in Kano.
She explained that during Covid -19 pandemic, the State Action Committee distributed palliative to traders who were affected by the pandemic and the Wurukum Market Association Chairman, Mr Abdullahi Yusuf was given palliatives to shared to his members.
“However, we heard that the chairman who also hails from Kano collected the palliatives and instead of using them for his members, felt they should sell them and that is how the palliatives got to Kano.
As a matter of fact, the issue is being investigated and Yusuf was arrested.
“I must tell you sincerely that as a government we are not keeping any palliative anywhere”.
Corroborating the Information Commissioner, the Special Adviser to Governor on Security Lt. Col. Paul Hemba rtd said the issue which was trending on the social media was not related to the EndSARS or Covid – 19 palliative looting, adding that the Benue State Police Command was also involved in the investigation process.
Gfhnews reports that over 1,958 indomie noodles meant for Benue State valued over N4 million were discovered in Singa Market, Kano State.
The palliatives were said to be part of 3,850 cartons of noodles given by Dangote Foundation for onward distribution to vulnerable persons in the State.
