The Kano State Government, says it has made provisions in the 2021 budget to cater for the needs of Persons with Disabilities (PLWDs).

PLWDs budget was included under the sub head of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

Muntari Yakasai, Director of Planninng, Kano State Ministry of Budget and Planning, stated this when Shaga Musa, Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), paid courtesy visit on Monday in Kano.

Yakasai said that a sub code had been allocated to the PLWDs under the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

He noted that the development followed a formal request by the association for budgetary provisions to improve the lives of its members.

“The state government has fulfilled the request of the association and made budgetary allocations pending the creation of agency for the PLWDs,” he said.

Yakasai said that with the ongoing legislative processes to domesticate the Disability Bill, the association would expect more recognition in the state government developmental projects.

Also speaking, Shaga, commended the gesture, adding it would go a long way to improve their social and economic wellbeing.

“For so many years, we never had the opportunity to benefit from the allocation because we were not vividly mentioned in the budget.

“We made a request to have our own code to be clearly identified and we are glad that it has been done,” Shaga said.

The Shaga was accompanied in the visit by Bilkisu Ado, Zonal Coordinator, National Association of Persons with Physical Disability.
