EndSARS Protest: Police nab 10 suspected looters, recover stolen items in A’Ibom

The Akwa Ibom Police Command says it arrested 10 suspects in connection with the looting and vandalism of property in Uyo following the infiltration of the #EndSARS protest by hoodlums.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Andrew Amiengheme, made this known on Saturday in Uyo in a press statement.

According to the statement, the timely deployment of Anti-Riot Policemen in collaboration with sister security agencies like the Army and DSS, as well as the efforts of the State Government has restored normalcy to the capital city.

Amiengheme said that the Police also recovered stolen property worth millions of Naira, including 14 Deep Freezers, six Refrigerators, eight flat Screen Televisions, four water dispensers, 16 bags of rice, four Air conditions, one printer, chairs and other items.

He said that the Command would continue to ensure that all the looted items are recovered.  

“Some youths with evil intentions in the guise of #ENDSARS went about vandalising, looting and burning some Government and private property including the Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), Anchor Insurance, De Choice Shopping Mall, L.G showroom, and Access Bank Plc.

“I have visited all the said places today with my Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Auwal M. Mohammad, and have made an on-the-spot assessment of damages done.

“I commend the State Government’s timely intervention through the imposition of curfew, as of today, I went round to ensure strict compliance, and we will continue to do so,” he stated.

He said the Command’s efforts have yielded positive results leading to the arrest of the suspects.

According to the statement, those arrested are: Victor Effiong ‘m’; Emediong  James ‘f’;  Imedimfon James ‘m’; Isaac John Udoh ‘m’; Sunday James ‘m’;Wisdom Reuben ‘m’;  Ntiefon Robert; Akaninyene Livinus ‘m’; Imoh Sunday; and Isaac Sunday Udo ‘m’.

“I am delighted to inform you that our quick deployment of Anti-Riot Policemen in conjunction with the efforts of sister security agencies such as the Army and DSS, and the efforts of the State Government has restored normalcy in Uyo and the State in general,” he said..  

He said that the Command under his watch would not allow anyone to derail the peaceful nature of the State.  

He called on the perpetrators to desist from the dastardly act and toe the line of peace or face the full weight of the law.  

The commissioner of police commended the people of Akwa Ibom for their peaceful disposition and continued partnership to the police to ensure peace in the state.
