The President of Para-Soccer Federation of Nigeria (PFN), Misbahu Didi, on Friday in Abuja said the federation was still hopeful of organising the sport’s 2020 national championship later this month.

Didi said the PFN was waiting for the resumption of contact sports in the country.

“We are waiting for the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 to lift the ban on contact sports.

“We have sent letter of participation to teams and clubs in about 20 states which have so far shown interest in the tournament.

“They (the clubs/teams) have been training ahead of the competition. We hope that the PTF will do the needful so that we will be able to organise this year’s event,’’ he said.

The PFN president added that they were also waiting for positive response from Rotary International.

“The Rotary have been the only faithful sponsor we have since the creation of the federation.

“They always give us full support whenever we organise our annual championship which is also used to mark the annual World Polio Day.

“The programme has always been a one-week tournament and the last day is always used for the final match.

“The last day of the event is to celebrate Polio Day which is on Oct. 24,” he said.

Didi however assured that the championship’s 2020 edition, which would be the eighth edition, would be glamorous and interesting than those of previous years.

Gfhnews reports that the 2020 National Para-Soccer Championship has been tentatively slated to hold from Oct. 18 to Oct. 24
