Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ has called on the State Government and the Nigeria Police to provide adequate and strigent security measures for 21 million Lagos residents.
This call is coming on the heels of the Covid-19 induced lockdown that will continue for another 14 days.
According to the strong female journalists body, putting adequate security measures in place would stem the spate of violence and robbery attacks across the state.
NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Adeola Ekine, stated this through press release that towards the end of the initial 14 days lockdown, there were reports of robbery attacks in some communities in Ogun and Lagos States, which the police were able to respond swiftly to and restored law and order.
She emphasized that the police needs to do more by ensuring adequate personnel are deployed to the trouble prone areas.
While condemning the activities of robbers, hoodlums and cult groups in some areas within the state, which caused panic among members of the public.
she said, “Everyone is affected by the lockdown and hoodlums should not see it as an avenue to violate public peace.”
