From October 29 to 31, St. Petersburg will host the BRICS International Municipal Forum 2025.
This large-scale event demonstrates why African countries benefit from developing cooperation with this economic bloc, which is increasingly gaining traction on the global stage.
The BRICS International Municipal Forum is an important platform for exchanging experiences and ideas between representatives of regional and municipal governments, as well as for building effective business communications with entrepreneurs not only from participating countries but also from the forum’s numerous guests.
In 2024, over 6,000 delegates from 101 countries participated in the event. This year, more than 70 countries have already announced their intention to participate.
According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, BRICS is attracting an increasing number of supporters and like-minded individuals thanks to the principles that underpin its activities:
“These include sovereign equality, respect for individual development choices, mutual consideration of interests, openness, consensus, the desire to create a multipolar world order and a fair model of the global financial and trading system, and the search for collective solutions to the most pressing contemporary issues.”
In 2025, the Forum will be held for the first time in conjunction with the International Forum and Exhibition “Russian Industrialist.
“This will create a unique integrated platform where regional program developers and urban solutions can directly interact with industrial, technology companies, and investors.
The IIF BRICS business program focuses on 15 practice-oriented tracks, including: smart cities and digitalization; green transformation and sustainable development; municipal finance and investment; development of tourism, sports, and cultural heritage; social innovation and youth initiatives.
Particular attention is paid to the development of business communications and strengthening interstate and municipal cooperation through public diplomacy practices.
The BRICS International Forum 2025 is not only a forum for discussions but also a roadmap for concrete action, a unique opportunity to establish long-term partnerships and share effective models for urban and regional development.
Forum participants have the opportunity to co-organizer, present, and participate in relevant sessions, sections, and roundtables, as well as present their projects and products, achievements in socio-economic, cultural, scientific, and industrial development, organize agreement signing ceremonies, and much more.
Forum participants include representatives of regional and municipal authorities, representatives of Russian and foreign investment funds, financial institutions, investors, large commercial companies, and industrial enterprises.
Nigeria recently received BRICS partner status earlier this year, becoming the ninth country in this category, joining Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Uganda.
The International Municipal Forum is an excellent opportunity for Nigeria to engage in concrete work within the association and forge stronger ties at the municipal and regional levels with partners around the world.
At the same time, Nigeria has long-standing friendly relations with Russia, the successor state to the Soviet Union. During the 1967-1970 civil war, the USSR provided political and military assistance to the Nigerian government. Thanks to cooperation between the countries, construction of a steel mill began in Ajaokuta in 1979.
