Community leader urges Tinubu to declare emergency rule in Plateau over killings

By Admin

Chief Yohana Margif, a community leader and the Waziri Mushere of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, has called on the Federal Government to declare a State of Emergency in the state over incessant killings.

Margif, who made the call at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, said that the appeal was necessitated by the urgent need to curb the current escalating killings and land-grabbing by terrorists, particularly in Mushere Chiefdom.

He expressed his deep disappointment over the failure of state government and relevant authorities to curb the daily killings and land grabbing by the terrorists, which has assumed a frightening existential threat.

According to him, the marauding gunmen, who now attack the community openly in broad daylight, have displaced the residents who have become refugees elsewhere and taken over their ancestral lands.

“The savage killings and destruction of homes continue even as of today, Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025.

“Seven communities have been captured, and many lives lost.

“No one knows what will happen next, especially tonight. The people cannot sleep and are helpless,” he said.

Margif noted that the primary responsibility of government is to protect lives and property and if it fails in doing it, then it has no business being in existence.

“I call on the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Plateau State.

“It is now clear that peace and security can only be restored in the state through a decisive action.

“If a State of Emergency was declared in Rivers State over mere political power tussle, Plateau State’s current dire situation warrants a similar action,” Margif said.
