Peter Obi urges the government to prioritise education and health for better Nigeria

Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, has urged government at all levels to invest more in education and health to improve the country.

Obi made the call in a goodwill message delivered at the 70th birthday ceremony of Mr Offong Ante and his daughter’s traditional marriage in Abuja.

He was represented by Dr Moses Paul, Secretary-General of the Obedient Movement.

Obi said education and health play critical roles in the development of any nation.

“This government must have compassion for people.

“A government that cares for the youth, women, the less privileged, and the nation at large.

“I will continue to speak to Nigerians never to relent, to continue standing and insisting on what is right,” he said.

Obi described Ante as his birthday mate and a strong stakeholder in the Obedient Movement.

“That is why I am here, to also be part of the celebration. He is a man of vision, purpose, and a serious-minded person. I wish him long life, good health and sound mind,” he said.

Ante expressed gratitude to God for witnessing his 70th birthday and his daughter’s traditional marriage on the same day.

“Well, today is my 70th birthday. The same today, my only daughter, Precious Ante, is being given out in marriage.

“I am most grateful to God Almighty, and I pray to the Lord to bless the union,” he said.

Mrs Joyce Ante, wife of the celebrant and mother of the bride, said the day was fulfilling for the family.

She advised the couple to love one another and put God first in all matters.

“This is the day I have been praying for. I am giving my daughter out in marriage, and today is my husband’s 70th birthday. So, I am happy.

“My husband is a good man who always provides for the family. I pray that God will uphold him and give him strength to see more years.

“I wish them happy married life, fruitfulness, and blessings in all areas of life,” she said.

Mr Emmanuel Ante, the celebrant’s first son, said his father had made a remarkable impact in the lives of his children and their families.

“Daddy, we your children love you so much. Thank you for your selfless service, love, and sacrifice.

“We pray that God will continue to keep you so that you will see and witness a better Nigeria in your time.

“We pray that God will continue to keep you, give you a sound mind, strength, and good health,” he said.
