Veteran football coach Claudio Ranieri has officially declined the opportunity to become the next head coach of the Italy national team.
The former Leicester City and Chelsea manager confirmed the decision on Tuesday via a statement, stating that while the offer was a great honour, he has chosen to remain in his current role at AS Roma.
“It’s a great honour for me to receive that proposal, but I decided to continue with my role at AS Roma as part of the management,” Ranieri said.
Ranieri, 73, has had an illustrious managerial career spanning several decades, and his decision comes as the Italian Football Federation seeks a new head coach for the national team.
