Experts and stakeholders under the auspices of Organic Fertilizer Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria (OFPSAN) have urged farmers and individuals to adopt organic farming to boost healthy crops and lifestyle.
The permanent secretary , Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Marcus Ogunbiyi, made the call on Tuesday during the election of a new executive, saying food sustainability and quality will be achieved with healthy farming systems.
Representative of the Permanent Secretary ,Director, Farm Inputs Support Services Department, Mr Abana Waziri -Abba, stressed the need for cooperation among members, assuring support for incoming members of the executive.
Alh. Adams Musa, incoming President of the association while giving his acceptance speech said that the new leadership is committed to ensuring stronger structural and organisational reforms.
This, he stressed, will ensure professionalism, transparency, and sustainable growth.
“Also, we will focus on deepening our engagement with the government and international partners to elevate organic agriculture as a key driver of food security in Nigeria.
“This is not a one-man journey, so I invite every one of you stakeholders, producers, suppliers and partners to come on board with renewed passion.
“Let us challenge the status quo, let us innovate, and let us grow, together we can and will make organic practices not just a dream, but a national standard”, he said
Mr. Isiaku Buba, National Project Coordinator National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-pocket (NAGs-AP) tasked the association to look away from self-interest and find ways to correct the constraints to the use of Organic fertilisers.
“The quality of the product is very important because farmers ask a lot of questions and are almost not sure of the quality of the fertilizers.
“There must be quality control to give them confidence to enhance their harvest boom .
“Worldwide people are clamouring for organically produced food now especially vegetables, and so all eyes are on the organic food systems to meet required standards both in quality and quantity”.
Okabirihedike Martin-Ihesie, National Chairman, Board Of Trustees, OFPSAN said the board was throwing its weight behind the incoming administration to ensure maximum capacity and achievements.
“It is my pleasure to be in your midst, and it is worthy to note how much the BOT members have tried to keep OFPAN alive from 28 February 2022 to 29 April 2025.
“I encourage you to allow peace reign as we have taken the pains to get things under control.
“Let us unite to a stronger firmer body that will ensure Nigeria is placed on the map as one of the countries with the healthiest populace,” he added.
