The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has underscored the need for awareness to promote SLTV, indigenous satellite television in the country.
Ogalla, represented by Rear-Admiral Julius Nwagu, Director of Civil Military Cooperation, Nigerian Navy, disclosed this when Princess Nikky Onyeri, Chief Operating-Officer of CAMROLL Quest Ltd and Strategic Relations Director of SLTV, paid him a working visit on Monday in Abuja.
According to him, promoting indigenous brands will ensure an inclusive development of the country and encourage consumers to buy into local products.
Ogalla said, “We will do our best to create awareness about local content as an option.
“If there is something that really bothers me, it is the need that you come up with expansion plans for the subscription of SLTV.
“It is an issue you have to look into, because if today you have 100 subscribers, there is no way 100 equipment can be used to serve 100, 000 subscribers.
“The issue of ensuring you have expansion plan in terms of equipment is very important, so you do not get overwhelmed.”
For her part, Onyeri while briefing the Naval authorities about SLTV Satellite Pay TV Network, commended the Federal Government for its encouragement toward development of indigenous satellite.
She also briefed them about her book titled: ‘Margins to Mainstream: Navigating Gender Inclusiveness in Nigeria’.
“Government attaches seriousness to indigenous satellite development by ensuring the breaking of monopoly in Nigeria.
“It did this by sending the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, to unveil the SLTV product, which has 58 channels in Nigeria, with more still to come.
“Our aim is to ensure that indigenous satellite product is made affordable and accessible in all rural communities across Nigeria.
“We look forward to working closely with the Nigerian Navy toward promoting the Nigeria brand, which is the reason we seek your support to make SLTV a brand at the Naval Headquarters and officers homes,” Oyeri said.
