The Ministry of Sports Development has set up seven-man investigative committee to look into the embarrassing controversies that put Nigeria in bad light during the 2024 Olympic Games in France.

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh has insisted he would do everything in making sure that the architect of the embarrassment at the Olympic Games do not go scot-free.

Top on the list of the embarrassing moments are: Favour Ofili ommission from participating in the 100m race and Ese Ukpeseraye, a Nigerian cyclist, who had to borrow a bicycle from her German colleagues to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ofili’s exclusion stems from a registration controversy, which prompted Sports Minister John Owan Enoh to threaten sanctions against erring officials.

In a press statement on Friday signed by the Director of Press, Ministry of Sports, the ministry announced the 7-man committee which will be inaugurated soon. It reads; “in its quests to investigate various negative exposures to the country during the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympics, the Ministry has constituted a 7-man committee to investigate such incidents. The following are members of the committee; Mumuni Alao (Chairman), Aliyu Mohammed, Hajia Rakiya, Godwin Enakhena, Abubakar Ango, and Christy Opara, Victor Okangbe.

The committee will be inaugurated next Wednesday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja.

The primary objective of the panel of inquiry is to investigate and name those who are responsible for the athletes numerous challenges, including administrative lapses and poor technical decisions, which contributed to their woeful performance.

Nigeria went to Paris 2024 with 88 athletes and took part in 12 sporting events without winning any medal.
