The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) is all about nurturing talent and fueling the growth of Africa’s buzzing film and TV industry. With its footprint in 14 countries, MTF delivers top-notch training and development programs that give emerging filmmakers and industry professionals the tools, skills, and resources they need to thrive. Through a mix of hands-on learning, education, and strategic partnerships, MTF is shaping the future of entertainment across the continent.

Since the transition from the Magic in Motion Academy in South Africa to the MultiChoice Talent Factory – and the establishment of the MTF academies in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana in 2018 – over 360 filmmakers have been trained by MTF’s four academies in the past nine years. More than 370 films have been commissioned and produced by MTF graduates. Additionally, over 390 bursaries have been awarded, and more than 70 trainees have benefitted from the Scriptwriting Incubator, further contributing to the development of a skilled workforce in the film sector.

With four academies strategically located in Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, and South Africa, MTF offers a diverse curriculum tailored to the unique contexts of each country. From providing internships with leading production companies to hosting masterclasses for industry professionals, and offering a pan-African digital networking platform, MTF is dedicated to building a pipeline of skilled professionals and entrepreneurs.

MTF’s commitment to excellence is further demonstrated through its strategic partnerships and collaborations with global industry leaders. Partnerships with institutions such as the New York Film Academy, Lights, Camera, Diaspora!, and Zee World provide students with internships, film training, and job-sharing opportunities, among others.

The impact of MTF’s work is evident in the numerous films and short films produced by its alumni, which have garnered recognition at prestigious film festivals across the world, including Cannes, the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival, and the Zanzibar International Film Festival.

MTF alumni are also making significant contributions to the industry through innovative projects. A notable success story in Nigeria is the founding of Filmmakers Mart by MTF alumni Eric Okyerefo, Chioma Paul-Dike, and Igho Avuiroevarie, who met at MTF in 2019. Their collaboration led to the creation of Recce Solutions, a platform streamlining location scouting, and Filmmakers Mart, a film-tech startup advancing the African film industry with its production solutions. Due to the numerous successes recorded since its launch, they have now expanded to Kenya and South Africa and have also launched RollPay, a revolutionary payment solution for the film industry.

MultiChoice Talent Factory continues to be a driving force in the development of Africa’s film industry. By providing a comprehensive training program, fostering strategic partnerships, and supporting the creative aspirations of its participants, MTF is ensuring that the future of African film and television industry is bright and full of promise. As the industry evolves, MTF remains committed to its mission of nurturing talent and promoting sustainable growth across the continent.
