The aftermath of eight thrilling contests at the WWE SummerSlam live event has set the stage for a keenly anticipated SmackDown event on Saturday midnight, broadcasting live on DStv and GOtv.
LA knight’s meteoric rise in the WWE continued on Sunday when he emerged as the winner of the flagship SummerSlam Battle Royale duel. He pummelled Sheamus to emerge as the last man standing in the 20-man duel. His shot at any of the championship belt is set to be revealed at the WWE SmackDown showing on WWE Channel (DStv ch. 128 and GOtv ch. ) at 1am on Saturday.
Summerslam saw World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins defend his belt by winning his rematch against Finn Balor. The latter had demanded a rematch of their Money in the Bank clash. Intercontinental champion Gunther also retained his title against Drew McIntyre and he is now one month away from surpassing The Honky Tonk Man’s long standing record of 453 consecutive days as champion.
The main event of the night saw Roman Reigns defeat Jey Uso to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and recognition as Tribal Chief. Cody Rhodes emerged triumphant over Brock Lesnar in their trilogy clash to end their long drawn feud, while Youtuber, Logan Paul, pulled up a surprise victory over Ricochet to emerge with the upperhand in their personal grudge match.
A new WWE Women’s Champion emerged at SummerSlam. After winning the Triple Threat match against Asuka and Charlotte Flair, Belair’s reign as champion was however brief as Iyo Sky cashed in
her Money In The Bank contract. In the other female bout of the event, Shayna Baszler locked Ronda Rousey to a technical submission to win the MMA rule match.
