Ambassador Patricia Amogu, a Correspondent with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has been elected Public Relations Officer (PRO), Nigerian Journalists for Climate Action Network, NIJOCAN, on Thursday.
Amogu, was elected alongside other officials of NIJOCAN at a two-day Stakeholders meeting at Keffi, Nasarawa State.
A communique signed by the newly elected Chairman, said that the Director, DCC, Dr. Iniebong Abiola-Awe declared the meeting open.
Abiola-Awe, represented by the Deputy Director, GHG, Mrs. Victoria Pwol, commended the efforts of the development partners, for their support towards ensuring that Nigeria’s unconditional commitment to reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG| emissions by 47% by 2030 is achieved.
According to the communique, members of the network agreed to play their roles in the collaborative reporting project with the EU-NCCRP by highlighting creative and promising innovations adopted by the Nigerian government to tackle climate change issues.
“That NIJOCAN has developed a template for it’s 12-month Action Plan highlighting actionable storylines with specific thematic areas on climate change and it’s response.
The communique said that NIJOCAN will drive the course towards mitigation and adaptation to climate change activities in the country while reporting, thereby bringing to the public space more awareness on Climate Change and it’s attended problems and solutions.
It said that NIJOCAN has developed and refined it’s vision and deliverables articulated in an operable 12-month Action Plan put together at the stakeholders meeting.
It further saud that progress made by NIJOCAN in the implementation of the collaborative reporting project action plan will be evaluated by a combined team of the NCCRP and the DCC.
Consequently NIJOCAN agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding with the NCCRP to create the needed awareness on climate change through robust reporting/publication on the subject matter to alleviate poverty and promote Climate Change Action.
According to reports, Amogu is a renowned journalist known for her outstanding fair and balanced reports.
She is currently covering International NGO’s on WASH and Climate Change activities including Japan International Co-operation Agency, Water Aid among others.
She is an active stakeholder of Journalists Go Organic, a Pan African initiative for Organic Agriculture and was recently selected as an official, State Task Group on Sanitation (STGS) for National Open Defecation free (ODC) certification protocol under Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA).
She is a member of Wan-data group (a synergy group of female journalists reporting on stories about female gender issues), powered by Code for Africa.
In 2020 she formed a pool of experts trained on better assessment of the Green Climate Funds (GCF) for Nigeria.
NIJOCAN members are drawn from different media organizations and cover beats such as agriculture, water and eknvironment, including finance and security.
The event which was sponsored by the European Union-Nigerian Climate Change Response Programme (EU-NCCRP), had in attendance the Deputy Director of the Department of Climate Change, (DCC), Federal Ministry of Environment and other staff of the ministry.
