The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said its troops deployed across the country neutralised 139 terrorists and rescued 42 kidnap victims.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Benard Onyeuko, who stated this during the bi-weekly update on Armed Forces of Nigeria operations between February 10 to 24, 2022, said 466 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists and their families surrendered.
The surrendered terrorists comprised of 120 adult males, 137 adult females and 209 children with the claim to have lost interest in terrorism ideology.
He said the troops arrested 111 terrorists and kidnappers while they recovered cache of arms and ammunitions.
In a related development, troops within the period under review, recovered 1,118,175 litres of illegal AGO and 2,086,000 litres of stolen crude oil.
Furthermore, the troops discovered and recovered 38 refining sites with 100 metal storage tanks, 25 dugout pits, 75 cooking ovens, 20 cotonou boats, 35 Yamaha pumping machines, 15 coolants as well as 10 tankers.
General Onyeuko said the troops also destroyed 35 galvanised pipes illegally connected and arrested 13 economic saboteurs associated with pipeline vandalisation.
In the North-East, he said troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralised 63 fighters, arrested 86 members of the terrorist group, recovered four gun trucks, 25 AK47 rifles, 56 magazines with 6.2mm special ammunitions, 78 rounds of different calibers of ammunitions, 67 packets of rounds on links, 3 FN grenades and three bandoliers.
He said the surrendered terrorists have been properly documented and handed over to the appropriate authorities for necessary actions.
On the other hand, the DHQ spokesperson said troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI’s operation led to the recovery of 10 AK 47 rifles, 100 rounds of 6.2mm ammunitions, 20 motorcycles, 40 herds of rustled cows and 50 rams.
He said the troops also rescued 10 kidnapped civilians, arrested 10 bandits and neutralised 10 bandits.
Relatedly, the troops of Operation Safe Haven’s engagements led to the recovery of one AK47 rifle, two locally made guns, four rustled cows, one Toyota Camry car and ome Mikano generating set, while three cattle rustlers and two kidnappers were arrested.
He added that 60 displaced persons were rescued and taken to shelter.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke neutralised 55 terrorists in Kaduna State.
