More revelations surrounding the death of a five-year-old, Hanifa Abubakar on Friday emerged as the principal suspect, a school proprietor, Abdulmalik Tanko said he killed the innocent girl with N100 rat poison.
Abdulmalik, who claimed he was the proprietor of the school said he killed the girl owing to his financial constraints as he was indebted to the owner of the structure which housed the school.
The principal suspect and father of two, made the confession when he was paraded before newsmen at the Bompai police headquarters on Friday.
According to the suspect, Abdulmalik Tanko, he demanded a ransom of N6 million but was paid N100,000, which, he claimed, was used to settle his teachers.
Her abductor killed her despite collecting ransom.
Abubakar’s uncle, Suraj Suleiman, confirmed the killing and recovery of her remains at a private school in Tudunwada area of Kano to DailyNigerian.
It was learnt that one of the abductor took the victim to his wife, but the wife refused to keep her.
The uncle said, “The kidnapper first took Hanifa to his wife, but the wife refused to keep her. He then took her to Tudunwada where he operates a private school and then laced her tea with rat poison.
“After she was poisoned to death, the kidnappers then cut her body into pieces and buried them within the school.”
The police on Thursday confirmed that the remains of the five-year-old girl were discovered in a shallow grave on private school premises in Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano State.
After abducting Hanifa on December 2, 2021, Tanko took her to a hideout and contacted her relatives for N6 million ransom.
