Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo state on Wednesday in Benin decried the lack of representation of his Local Government Area, Oredo in the state House of Assembly because the elected member chose to do the bidding of a godfather.
Obaseki stated this at the swearing-in ceremony for seven Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and 25 Special Assistants (SAs). This follows the harmonisation by leaders and members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Oredo Local Government Area (LGA).
He said it was shameful that he as the governor of the state has no representative in the House of Assembly.
According to him, “It’s a shame that a governor has no member representing him from Oredo in the state Assembly to do the work of a representative to ensure that services get to the people.
“Politics should not be practice that way. When you bring out people and you give them the mandate through your votes, they should be responsible to the people not to any ‘godfathers’ or other perceived leaders.
“That was what happened in Oredo, where we have two representatives, but neither of them is there today because one ‘godfather’ said they should not go there and serve the people”, he said.
Obaseki said that the politics in Oredo LGA has changed, saying that they are no longer playing the politics of stomach infrastructures, prperly.
The governor, while assigning responsibilities to the new appointees, said that they will be evaluated every three months and if any of them are found wanting, they would be replaced.
