The Conservator-General, National Park Service, Dr Ibrahim Goni has called on Nigerians to continue to show commitment to the conservation , protection and preservation of the county’s natural heritage – especially as found in our National Parks.
Goni made the call in a statement by the Conservator of Park (CP) Emmanuel Ntuyang, the Service Public Relations Officer on Friday in Abuja.
The C-G noted that the protection of these important national assets has a direct bearing on the quality of life of the people.
He used the occasion to thank Nigerians for their enormous goodwill and support to the Service, especially as the world is challenged by a lot of environmental improvidence such as climate change, species’ loss, deforestation, draught etc.
He further urged Nigerians and foreigners alike to take advantage of the season to visit the National Parks across the country.
According to him, we all should ”avoid activities that are inimical to the environment, such as unguided and indiscriminate bush burning, deforestation, etc this season, as this has debilitating consequences, even beyond the season”.
The Conservator-General further wished Christians a reflective and peaceful Christmas celebration.
He reminded Christians of the central message of the celebration which is the birth of Christ and its implications to the harmonious and peaceful coexistence as people of diverse faiths.
