GOtv Boxing Night: Organisers Announce New Format for Choosing Best Boxer

If his boast is anything to go by, David “Awosika” Cosmos, will emerge the national light heavyweight  champion after one round on 24 December at GOtv Boxing Night 24. 


The event, which holds at the indoor sports hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, will feature live musical performance by Jamopyper in addition to seven bouts, including an all-female one.

It will also be aired live on SuperSport Select 2 (GOtv Channel 34) and SuperSport Variety 4 (DStv Channel 209).


 Cosmos, who is billed to fight Segun “Success” Olanrewaju, has declared that his opponent will not go beyond the first round.


“He will not go beyond the first round. He’s inferior to me and I know him too well.

He should forget about the title. I will knock him down in the first round because I need to have some time to prepare for Christmas,” he bragged.


The main bout on the night will be the World Boxing Federation (WBF) International welterweight title duel between Nigeria’s Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde and Ghana’s Justice “Qwick Action” Addy.


 In the cruiserweight division,  Abiodun “Infiniti” Afinni will take on Michael “Emirate” Godwin for the national title.

Two welterweight clashes will see Semiu “Jagaban” Olapade take on  Taiwo “Gentle Boy” Olowu, with  Willian “Kaki” Amosu facing Segun “War” Adeyemi.In the bantamweight category, Saheed “Eagle” Azeez will face Aminu “Lucky Boy” Akintayo will go head-to-head. 


The female bout, in the super flyweight division, will see Haminat Yekini take on Bukola Blessing.


The best boxer at the event will go home with a cash prize of N1million and the Mojisola Ogunsanya Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy.
