Police in Kogi have rescued a man and recovered two AK-47 rifles and 29 rounds of live ammunitions from suspected kidnappers.
The state police command spokesman, DSP William Aya disclosed this in a statement in Lokoja on Monday.
According to him, the victim was rescued from a kidnappers’ camp inside a bush in Ajaokuta Local Government area of the state.
He said that four gunmen had at about 3:30pm of April 25 stopped the car in which the victim was driving at PYN junction, Ajaokuta – Lokoja road, forced him out and marched him into the bush.
On receiving the report, he that a team of policemen led by Ajaokuta Divisional Police Officer, CSP Shola Night immediately embarked on a search and rescue operation.
Aya said that the effort eventually paid off when policemen traced the kidnappers to their hideout at about 8pm and engaged them in a gun duel.
The Police Public Relation Officer said that the suspects succumbed to the superior fire power of the policemen and fled with bullet wounds.
“The victim was rescued unhurt and two AK-47 rifles with 29 rounds of ammunition were recovered,” the statement said.
Aya said that the state commissioner of police , Mr Ede Ayuba has directed public and private hospitals and members of the public to report anybody with bullet wounds to the nearest police station.
