Justice Jane Inyang, of the Federal High Court Yenagoa on Thursday said that in spite of threats to her life while she served in Yenagoa, she had no regrets discharging her duties.
Inyang who spoke at a send forth ceremony in her court said fond memories of the Yenagoa Judicial Division will always be in her heart and thanked God for giving him the spirit and courage to discharge his duties.
“Yenagoa Division will always be in my heart, it did not matter to me that I came under severe attacks, it did not matter to me that my life was threatened.
“What mattered to me was that justice must be done.
“I thank God for giving me the spirit and courage, I say that when one has a pure heart you can dare the lion.
“You can look the lion in the face and do what you have to do. I have fond memories of Bayelsa, I will never turn my heart away from Bayelsa State,” She said.
Speaking at the event, Biriyai Dambo SAN, Bayelsa Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice applauded the judge and described her as an elegant and courageous jurist.
He said that the contributions of Inyang to the administration of justice in the state would remain a reference point.
Dambo said that Inyang was always ready to dispense justice without fear or favour,” she will always be remembered for impacting on the people of Bayelsa.
“Personally, I appeared before you here even in 2018 or so even before I became the Attorney General. My Lord when I came in here, I saw an elegant judge, well spoken, very articulate.
“A judge that was ready to dispense justice without fear, that was the impression I had and that was the impression I left with, least did I know that I will come in here to be Attorney-General.
“My Lord is very upright, he doesn’t delve into the things that happen around the state, she is glued to her work and ready to dispense justice the way it should be to carry out her constitutional duties.
“My Lord you have been in Bayelsa for about three years, you have impacted on the people of Bayelsa State.
“Some might not tell you, some might say she is a very strict judge and when they say somebody is strict that is when you know that the person is good but when they say you are too liberal that means you are compromising,” Dambo said.
In his remarks, Mr Somina Johnbull, who spoke for Yenagoa branch of Nigeria Bar Association commended Justice Inyang for his contributions to the justice system in the state.
He also lauded Inyang for bringing majesty into the court room, and described her judgements as a force of unassailable logic.
He said irrespective of what happened or what will happen, the people who are appreciative of his contributions were much more than those who grumble about it.
