Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the New Kuchigoro Camp, FCT on Sunday, appealed for a security outpost as armed robbery attack in the camp left one dead and two injured.
Mr Philemon Emmanuel, Chairman of the IDP camp, disclosed this in Abuja on Sunday.
He said the IDP’s were robbed at the camp at about 3a.m. on Saturday, March 6. Emmanuel said: “This is the first time such has happened since our stay here in 2014, armed robbers attacked this village, they shot three people, one of them is already dead.
“I took those shot to the National Hospital, Abuja at 4a.m.; the armed robbers came here and were over 50 in number, all of them had guns, there was no security in place.
“The IDPs secure themselves as we do not have any police outpost in this place, nor security operatives.
“Government should send us security personnel; we do not want to be living in this place. It can look for a small place in Nasarawa for us to farm.
“At least if we go to farm, we will help ourselves, so we appeal to government, non-governmental organisations to help us.” he said.
He said the corpse of the person that died as a result of the attack had been transported to Kano for burial.
He also said the matter had been reported to the nearby Divisional Police Officer, in charge of Galadimawa station, adding that the security personnel visited the camp to carry out investigations.
An eye witness to the armed robbery attack, Mr Abdullahi Tijani, said that some of the robbers burgled his batcher, shot his friend there and made away with all his money.
“I was asleep when the armed robbers invaded our house at 3a.m., they asked for money and I told them that there was no money.
“They took my phone and my friend’s phone and then shot him on his leg,” Tijani said.
In a separate interview, Mrs Audu Hassan, Assistant Director of Nursing Services at the National Hospital, confirmed that two IDPs casualty were admitted at the health facility on Saturday March 6. According to her, two men were brought to our hospital from New Kuchigoro IDP camp at 7a.m., one is 37 years old man and the other is 32 years old man.
Hassan said: “Both of them had gun shot wounds, one was wounded in the right tight, that one is here, then the second one who is 32 years had injury at uranophobic area of the body.
“So that one has been rushed to the Theatre as I am talking to you; we are not aware of the dead one, because that one was not brought to this place.
“It’s the ones alive that were brought here and those are the ones that we are concerned about,” she said.
