An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has remanded a 57-year-old cleric, Abdulrouf Akande, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his 10-year-old stepdaughter.
Justice Abiola Soladoye ordered the remand of the defendant following his not guilty plea to the one count charge of defilement.
The prosecutor, Mr Peter Owolabani, told the court that Akande committed the offence at 1:00am on May 15, 2020 at his residence at No. 5, Agric Road, Egan Igando, Lagos.
Owolabani said that the complainant was asleep with her mother who was the defendant’s wife, in the living room when the defendant sneaked in.
He said the defendant covered his stepdaughter’s mouth with a cloth, carried her to his bedroom and defiled her.
Owolabani said that in the morning, the complainant reported Akande’s actions to her mother who in turn alerted the authorities.
He said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2015.
The case was adjourned until April 29, for trial.
